Use the links below to find out more about the advanced features of Google Sites that will help you to save time.

Set the site theme of a site

After creating a site, you can set the format of the site by applying a theme. This sets the colour and style of the header of each page in the site, and the colour of any sections that you apply emphasis to. You can also control the fonts of your site by choosing a...

Add a site logo

You can add a logo e.g. your company or project logo to the top-left corner of the site, so that it displays automatically on each page of the site. Once a logo has been added, you can use the logo colours in the site theme, or as a section background...

Format page headers

Each page in your site has a page header that can be formatted to match the overall style of the site, or by adding an individual background image to the header. Various header styles can be used to ensure your pages look as you want them to...

Google Sites allows you to create web pages with defined horizontal sections, showing all relevant information in one strip on the page. Sections can be formatted so that they have different background colours and images, to make them stand out and group related items...

Add a footer to all pages

You can add a footer to all pages of your Google site, and add text and images to the footer. Footers are useful to display contact information or copyright details for the site.

Change site settings

The menu displays horizontally in the top-right corner of the site by default, but you can switch to showing a vertical sidebar menu if you prefer. You can also set other site options, including a logo, navigation colour, search options and more.

As you create new pages in a Google site, they will appear automatically in the menu of the site. You can hide a page from the navigation at any time, and show it in the navigation again if you need to allow easy access to the page again...

View the revision history of a site

You can view a full revision history of a site to see all changes made to the site over time, and can revert to a previous version if required. Version history allows site editors to easily revert to previous versions of a site, restore deleted site content and view the history of who has made changes to a site.

Share a site

You can set access to your Google Site to control who can work on the unpublished version of the site and who can view the published version.  Each person that you give access to the site can be set as an editor or a published viewer.

Publish a site

Once you have finished creating your site, you can publish it so that everyone in the organisation, or selected groups, can view the site. When you publish a site, you specify a URL for the site, which users can enter into their browsers to view your site...
