Google Slides

Power User

Use the links below to find out more about the advanced features of Google Slides  that will help you to save time.

Link data into slides

When you copy and paste data from Google Sheets into Google Slides, you can create a link that can be updated at any time to show the latest data from the source you copied the information from. This allows you to keep your data synchronised across all files that the data is displayed in.

Add images to slides

When adding images to your slides, you can source them from Google Drive, upload them from your computer or search for images via Google Search. Once an image has been added, you can click on the image to manipulate it as required.

Add tables to slides

You can add a table to a slide to display an amount of information in colums and rows. You can set the background and border colour of a table, and even remove border colours to make the table look like a collection of boxes on a slide.

Add diagrams to slides

Google Slides has a number of pre-set diagrams you can create and modify to match your requirements - including grids, hierarchies for organisation charts, timelines and cycles.

Add shapes to slides

While the pre-set diagrams are useful, it’s important to be able to create your own shapes from scratch - you can combine shapes with tables to create any type of diagram.

Customise themes

The theme of the presentation can be customised to change the format of all slides in a single step, by setting the format of text, and backgrounds, and by adding objects such as images. As well as changing all slides in the presentation, you can also make a change to just the slides that use a particular layout...

Add functionality to slides using add-ons

You can extend the functionality of Google Slides using add-ons, which are useful tools written by third parties and added via the add-ons store for Google Workspace. Examples of add-ons for Slides include icon libraries, translation tools and animated GIF creation tools.

Present a slide show

Presenter View in Google Slides allows you to display your presentation in full screen while managing the slides separately. In presenter view, you can easily navigate between slides, view speaker notes and even allow the audience to ask questions, and choose which question to display on screen at...

Use audience tools

Audience tools allow your audience to ask questions and vote on questions asked by other audience members. You can view all questions in Presenter View, and choose to display a question to the audience.

Create custom templates for slides

To promote consistency across your presentations, you can set up templates that anyone in the organisation can access as the starting point for their new presentations, spreadsheets and presentations. Templates can contain standard text, formatting and layouts.
