Use functions in sheets

A function is a predefined formula that performs a specific calculation by using values a user input as arguments.

Google Sheets will suggest functions when you start typing a formula in your sheet. 

If you type = under a column of figures, for example, the following suggestions will display. Press Tab then use the arrow keys to select a function, or click on the function you wish to use. 

Most common functions work in the same way in both Excel and Google sheets, including conditional functions such as IF and VLOOKUP.

You can search for functions by name, or filter the list to show only specific function types e.g. Date or Financial functions.
