You can attach files to a message using the Attach a File link, or by dragging and dropping if you use a modern browser, such as the latest version of Google Chrome or Internet Explorer. If you attach a file and change your mind about sending it, simply click on the check box in front of the file name in the message to remove the tick.
You can attach files to a message as follows:
Click on the Attach files button along the bottom of the message pane
Locate the file you wish to attach using the Look In box to choose the drive, then double-clicking on each folder and sub-folder the file is contained in
Click on the file to attach and click on Open
Each attached document will be listed along the bottom of the message pane. Click on the Attach files button again to attach further documents, or click on the X at the end of an attachment that you no longer want to send with the message.
If you use Google Chrome as your browser, you can hold [Ctrl] and select multiple files in the same folder. All selected files will be added to the message when you click on Open.
If your message contains specific phrases that relate to an attachment being included e.g. see attached, or I’ve attached, Gmail will check that an attachment has been included before the email is sent. If there is no attachment, you will be prompted to attach the file before sending.
Click on OK to send the message without the attachment
Click on Cancel to return to the message and attach the file before sending
If you use a modern browser, you will be able to attach files to email messages by dragging them into the message from your operating system e.g. from the Windows explorer.
Select the file(s) you wish to attach to your message
Drag the file over the message window, then over the part of the screen that says Drop files here
Release the mouse button to attach the file(s) to the message
