You can import individual documents into Google Drive, and can also import more than one file at a time by selecting multiple files. Once uploaded, the documents will be listed under My Drive and can be moved into folders as required.
Before uploading files into Google Drive, you can set whether documents will be converted to Google Docs as they are imported.
Click on the Settings cog to the right of the Google Drive screen
Choose Settings
To convert all docs to Google format as they are imported, check Convert uploaded files to Google Docs editor format
Click on Done
To import individual documents into Google Drive:
From the Google Drive home page, click on the New button
Choose File Upload
Locate the document you want to upload. In order to be able to edit the file in Google Docs, this should be a Word file (in either .doc or .docx format), a rich text document (.rtf), text file (.txt), html file (.htm or .html), PowerPoint file (.ppt, .pptx or .pps), Excel spreadsheet (.xls or .xlsx), comma separated file (CSV) or PDF.
You can import more than one file at a time by clicking on the first file, then holding Ctrl while clicking on each additional file
Click on Open after selecting the file(s) you wish to upload
The documents will be added to the Upload list and you will see the progress of the upload. You can click on Cancel at any time to cancel the upload:
Once uploaded, the documents will be listed under My Drive.
Click on a document to select it
Double-click on a document to view or open it, depending on the file type
